Nevada does not tax capital gains and has no net corporate income tax, according to Bloomberg BNA. The lack of income tax makes sales and property taxes crucial revenue generators. Nevada temporarily increased the sales tax, from 6.5 percent to 6.85 percent, in 2009 and lawmakers voted in June 2011 to extend the increase to 2013. Governor Brian Sandoval indicated that he supports extending the tax increase again to avoid budget cuts.
