Property tax per capita: $1,865

Alaska gets significant income from corporate taxes, mostly from the oil and gas industry. The state collects high revenue per person -- $17,630 in 2011, according to the Tax Foundation -- without income tax, capital gains tax, state sales tax or estate tax. Its average local sales tax rate is 1.69 percent this year. At $1,865 per person, property taxes are relatively high. And Alaska’s beer excise tax is the highest in the nation at $1.07 per gallon.
