Sony Hacked

When: Apr. 16-19
What: Sony (SNE) announced on Apr. 26 that hackers stole account information from more than 77 million PlayStation Network and Qriocity users between Apr. 17 and 19, possibly including encrypted credit-card information for about 10 million users. Just a few days later, on May 3, the company said that hackers may have stolen customer information from 24.6 million accounts on Apr. 16 and 17, including about 12,700 non-U.S. credit- and debit-card numbers and expiration dates and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. In June, Spanish police arrested three hackers suspected of helping to attack Sony.
