This settlement was part of a larger investigation into fraud in the municipal bond market. J.P. Morgan Securities agreed to pay <a href="http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/July/11-at-890.html">$177 million to the Justice Dept.</a> and other authorities to settle criminal charges. The <a href="http://www.sec.gov/news/press/2011/2011-143.htm">SEC alleged</a> that New York's J.P. Morgan Securities was able to win bids by getting an illegal look at the bids of competitors.</p>
