Piotroski's Worst: Bank of America

Business: Banking, investing and other financial products and services

Piotroski Score: 2

Bank of America (BAC) net income fell to a loss in 2010 after generating $6 billion in 2009, earning it zero points on this Piotroski metric.

Outlook for the Company:

Bull Case: Raymond James analyst Anthony J. Polini says that Bank of America is moving in the right direction as it puts mortgage-related issues behind it. Barclays Capital says that even though BofA is no longer the biggest bank, it is back to profitability.

Bear Case: Barclays Capital warns that if the housing market experiences another decline of 10 percent to 15 percent -- and mortgage losses rise -- shares could trade down.
