Steve Jobs Resigns

When: Aug. 24
What: Apple (AAPL) became the world's largest technology company in recent years, but investors have long worried whether it can continue to succeed without its visionary leader. On Aug. 24, Apple announced that Chief Executive Steve Jobs would step down and Tim Cook, previously Apple's chief operating officer, would assume his role. The unease about Jobs's resignation was short-lived: Apple's stock tumbled in the hours following the announcement but quickly rebounded. Jobs passed away on Oct. 5.
