Portfolio Tracker

The Portfolio Tracker provides an easy and secure way to organize and view your security holdings. Just enter your securities, the dates of purchase, number of shares bought and cost per share and the tracker takes that data and generates a variety of views of your portfolio. You have the flexibility of entering as much or as little information as you prefer. The created portfolio's are static but for a more enhanced portfolio experience see the "Market Monitor" portion of Investment Tools. You can update your data within a portfolio by clicking on the refresh button on your browser toolbar.

First time users will be brought to an introduction page. This provides an overview of the Portfolio, Watchlist, and the Market Monitor. After the overview, you'll be asked if you would like to start by entering securities you own or don't own. If you want to start with securities you own, you'll be taken to a portfolio entry screen that looks like:

Launch Market Monitor

Click on the Launch Market Monitor button to begin tracking your securities with updates to your portfolio every time there is trading action on your securities.

News

Select a Portfolio to view.
Click the "News" button to view company news based on the portfolio being viewed. Click on a desired headline to view the story.
Entries that begin with an "*" are headlines only.
Click on "Printer-Friendly Format" to view and print the story in a separate window.

Download

Clicking on this button will enable you to download data for the all your holdings in the current portfolio. The download format will be a comma separated file which can be easily loaded into a variety of programs, like spreadsheets. The data provided will be all the different non-calculated fields that are available across the different portfolio views.

Chart

Click on the "Chart" button to view your current portfolio in a charted format. You may choose to chart your portfolio as an Index. The chart will show the 1 year performance of your "portfolio index" as a default. All portfolio indices start with a base value of 100. If other securities or indices are added to the chart, then all results will be the percentage the security/index has increased/decreased in the selected time frame. Note that the "portfolio indices" have tickers or labels of 1:P, 2:P, ... 5:P (with the oldest portfolio starting as 1:P). These tickers or labels can be obtained by hovering over the portfolio names. Note that if your portfolio contains indices, they will not be included in your "portfolio index." If your portfolio is made up of entirely of indices, then a chart will not be generated.

Exchange Information

As an added feature on the main Portfolio tracker page is the listing of exchange information. Three exchanges are listed: 1) Dow Jones Industrial Average 2) S&P 500 Index 3) NASDAQ 100 Stock Index. Each time the screen is refreshed the data will reload with up to date exchange information. The first column of figures represents the current value and the second column represents the change from the day before.

Price Today's stock price.
Change The change in price between the current price and the close from the previous trading day.
% Change The change in price between the current price and the close from the previous trading day divided by the close from the previous trading day.
Open Price per share at market open.
High The highest trading price of the day.
Low The lowest trading price of the day.
Time The time of the most recent trading information based on required delay.
Volume Number of shares traded for the day.
Bid The current bid price in the market.
Ask The current ask price in the market.
52Wk High The highest price that a security traded at during the past 52 weeks.
52Wk Low The lowest price that a security traded at during the past 52 weeks.
Risk 90-day price volatility. Specifically, the annualized standard deviation of relative price change of the 90 most recent trading days closing price, expressed in a percentage.
Beta The measure of an asset's risk in relation to the market According to asset pricing theory, beta represents the type of risk, systematic risk that cannot be diversified away. When using beta, there are a number of issues that you need to be aware of: (1) betas may change through time; (2) betas may be different depending on the direction of the market; (3) the estimated beta will be biased if the security does not frequently trade; (4) the beta is not necessarily a complete measure of risk. Also, note that the beta is a measure of co-movement, not volatility. It is possible for a security to have a zero beta and higher volatility than the market.
Shares (Millions) The total amount of current shares outstanding.
Mkt. Cap. (Millions) Shares times Price
Float (Millions) The number of shares that are available to the public.
Ret. On Eqty Fiscal year's after-tax income divided by book value.
Short Interest The total number of shares investors have sold short but have not yet bought back.
%Ytd Return The % change in price since the final closing price of the previous year. Note if the equity started public trading this year, this value will be 0.
% 12Mo Return The % change of the current price over the past 12 months. Note if the equity has been publicly traded for less than 12 months, this value will be 0.
News Headlines Underneath the data portions of the Detailed Summary View are Bloomberg News headlines related to the security. The lead of the story is displayed underneath the headline. To view the full story, simply click on the headline.

Creating a New Portfolio

Click on the "Create Portfolio" button. The portfolio provides a name by default; however, you may enter a custom name for your new portfolio. You may create a maximum of 5 portfolios plus the Watchlist. Each portfolio can hold a total of 20 securities each. Note you are presented with 10 data entry lines. If you have more than 10 holdings to add, enter the 10, click submit, then click on the Edit Portfolio button to add the remaining 10. There are no restrictions to naming your Portfolio; however, there is a character limit of 20. Once you've named the portfolio then add your holdings information to the Portfolios details form. For help on entering Symbols, click on the question mark icon next to the Symbol title. This will popup a help page explaining the format to use when entering tickers and exchanges. It will also contain a listing of the exchanges we currently support.

Click Submit

Your new portfolio has been created and saved.

Portfolio Details
NameDescription
Symbol:Exchange Enter a valid trading symbol followed by a colon, then the exchange that the holdings trade on with no spaces. For indexes, use IND. Please note - IND option is only available in the "Watchlist" Portfolio. It is not a valid option in a regular portfolio because you cannot purchase shares in an index.
# Shares Enter the number of shares owned. If "#share" is blank, the application will default to one share owned.
Price per Share Enter the purchase price of each share. If "Price per Share" is blank, the application will default to the current price of the security based on the date the security was entered into this portfolio.
Date purchased (mm/dd/yyyy) Enter the date the security was bought. If "Date Purchased" is blank, the application will default to the date the security was entered into this portfolio.
Cash Enter desired cash total.

Editing a Portfolio

The first row of green tabs is a representation of all your current portfolios. Each tab will be named after one of your portfolios. Long names may be truncated, but hovering over the tab will display the full portfolio name. The raised light green tab denotes the active portfolio in view. You may switch your view to another portfolio at any time just by clicking on the name of the portfolio.

Click on the "Edit Portfolio" tab. Use the Portfolio Detail table to add a new security. To modify existing securities, click the drop down arrow within transaction type column. You have the option of choosing Sell, Edit or Delete. Selling will allow you to enter the amount of shares sold and the selling price. This information will be saved and can be viewed in the "Realized Gain-Loss" view.

Editing allows several of the columns to be modified and saved. Delete will remove the entire entry from the portfolio. When you are finished, click the "submit" button. If there are any invalid entries, the field in question will become highlighted in red. Please correct the entry and click "submit" once again.

To delete an entire Portfolio, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the phrase "Click here to delete this Portfolio". You will be asked to confirm the action before a final deletion is made. Once a portfolio is deleted it can not be restored. The Watchlist is edited in the same manner as a Portfolio however, the sell option is not available and the entire Watchlist cannot be deleted.

Viewing Your Portfolio/Watchlist

Click on any of the dark green portfolio tabs to select the desired portfolio to view. The currently selected portfolio will display as a raised light green tab. Use the second row of green "View" tabs to view the specified portfolio in different ways. The dark colored tab denotes the view that has been selected. The views can be changed at any time.

Currency notes: The following View Tabs: Diversity Model, Performance, and Realized Gain-Loss offer a "Currency Converter" feature at the bottom of the webpage. If your entire portfolio trades in one currency, then the Gain/Loss/Value columns will default to that currency. If the portfolio spans across different currencies, the values will default to US dollars. The Currency Converter allows you to view your portfolio in any currency just by selecting the desired currency from the drop down menu. PLEASE NOTE: Currency conversions may cause slight rounding errors, rates may be slightly delayed, and percentage change values are NOT adjusted for currency appreciation/depreciation when switching currency views.

The following is a breakdown of the available Portfolio Views. A Watchlist has all the same views except for Current Summary and Realized Gain-Loss. For more detailed information about the specific terms see our Financial Glossary.

Diversity Model
  1. The Diversity Model shows you the same data as the Historical View with additional pie charts:
    1. The pie chart under the section labeled "Holding" is broken down by your actual holdings.
    2. The pie chart under the section labeled "Industry" is broken down by industry groupings. Each of your holdings is categorized into its major industry group.
    3. The pie chart under the section labeled "Market Capitalization" is broken down by market capitalization. Each of your stocks is categorized by its market capitalization (Micro Cap, Small Cap, Mid Cap, Large Cap). Note that mutual funds have no concept of market capitalization and will list as Unclassified.
  2. These charts let you can see at a glance if your portfolio's diversification is meeting your goals. Note that the pie charts are interactive. If you hover the mouse over a section of one, that section will pull out slightly and display what it represents and what percentage it is.

Price Paid Cost to user based on their historical portfolio investments.
Purchase Date The date the security was purchased. If there are multiple purchase dates then "Multiple" will be displayed.
Price Today's stock price.
Value (Currency) The current total monetary value of the stock in US dollars based on your information.
Net Gain/Loss (Currency) The total monetary value gained or lost in US dollars based on your information.
% Gain/Loss Percentage gain or lost on that security since market open based on your information.
% Port Percentage of this security's holdings in comparison to the entire portfolio.

12Mo. EarningsIn the U.S. and Canada, this field represents the trailing 12-month diluted EPS from continuing operations. In South Africa, it represents the trailing 12-month special EPS. In all other countries, this field represents trailing 12-month basic earnings per share.
Quarter Est EPS Estimated earnings per share for the listed quarter.
Yr Est EPS Estimated earnings per share for the fiscal year ending as listed.
Ann. EPS Annualized Earnings Per Share.
Earn. Growth Rte Current fiscal year earnings growth rate.
B/S Book Value per Share.
Last Dividend Net dividend amount per share of the most recently announced dividend.
12mo Div. Yld. The sum of gross dividend per share amounts over the prior 12 months, divided by the current stock price.
Relative Div. Yld. Twelve month yield of a given security relative to the major index in the country in which the security trades. For US companies, the S&P500 Index is used.
    P/E The relationship between the price of a stock and its earning per share, expressed in the formula: P/E ratio = stock price/earnings per share.
    Est. P/E The relationship between the price of a stock and is estimated earnings per share, expressed in the formula: Est. P/E = stock price/estimated earnings per share.
    P/B Current price over book value.
    S/S Sales per share = (Net Sales)/(Basic Average # of Shares for the period)
Returns All returns are the total return for the given time period as of the previous business day (dividends are reinvested).
    P/S Current price over sales per share.

Logging Out

To log out of your portfolio, click on the green LOG OUT button on the top right of the page.
