Assisted Living Facilities
The growth of assisted living facilities ramped up in the 1990s as an alternative to nursing homes. They feel more like home (there are no nursing stations) and can be a good choice for people who do not need regular medical attention but require assistance with things like getting dressed and bathing. Facilities come in all shapes and sizes, from a family-run home to a dormitory-style room to an apartment. In Kentucky, the average monthly cost is $2,826, according to MetLife. In Connecticut, the average spirals to just under $5,000 per month.
