Light bulbs make up 18 percent of all eco-friendly purchases for the home, according to a consumer study by market research firm GfK MRI. On Earth Day, April 22, Philips will launch a new eco-friendly line of light bulbs; the most expensive ones cost $60 and last more than 20 years. About $1 billion was spent on energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs in 2008 (latest data available), according to the Natural Marketing Institute.
