The Easter Dinner
The Easter meal is defined by foods that early Christians embraced such as lamb or ham, as well as eggs and bread. Americans spend $5.5 billion on food during Easter, more than a third of their total spending on the spring holiday season, according to research firm IBISWorld. Restaurants benefit. In a 2011 National Restaurant Association survey, 14 percent of respondents, or about 33 million people, said they planned to eat out. The most popular food request is ham, with 39 percent saying they needed to have it on Easter.
