Beer is America's biggest cookout expense. According to the Nielsen Co., Americans purchase 52.7 million cases of beer in the two weeks leading up to July 4, making it the fourth most popular holiday for drinkers after Labor Day, Memorial Day and Christmas. The average price per case is $20.06. Bud Light and Budweiser are the top-two sellers, followed by Coors Light, Miller Lite and Corona Extra. Wine is also a huge seller, accounting for $489.3 million in sales in the four weeks ending July 10, according to Symphony IRI.
