Norway in a Nutshell
The train trip through the Norwegian fjords winds from the town of Myrdal to Flam, where you pass by rivers that cut through deep ravines and waterfalls that flow down the sides of steep mountains. The Flam Railway is one of the world's steepest railway lines and goes through twisting tunnels in and out of the mountains. If you go in the winter, you'll miss a lot of the dramatic beauty -- there are only six hours of sunlight. Some travelers rave about the people, vistas and adventures, such as taking a boat from the train to visit a goat cheese factory. Others say the coastal village of Flam - the one coastal village visited on the trip -- is essentially a train terminal with a great big gift shop.
