All it takes is a dollar and a dream--or so the ad slogans go. What is the real cost of playing the lottery, for winners and society? There are ticket costs, advertising costs, vendor costs, taxes to pay. There are outlays for good financial advice--and the price winners can pay if they don't get it. What about the damages to relationships a windfall can bring? Here are some of the costs of keeping the lottery dream alive.
