The number of home-based businesses in the U.S. will rise from 19.3 million in 2011 to more than 20 million by 2013, according to market research firm IDC. Fueling that is a lousy job market. "You're almost forced into being an entrepreneur if you are given that pink slip," says Justin Jaffe, an IDC research manager. You can set up a home office on the cheap with used furniture and some creativity or create a more expensive, formal space.
