Leaving your car at home twice a week can cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1,600 pounds per year, according to the EPA. So drive less and carpool more. According to Bloomberg News, drivers of cars such as the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf may save as much as $1,200 a year on gas. Sales of U.S. hybrids totaled 272,948 cars and light trucks in 2011, according to Bloomberg News.
