Solar Power

Prices for home solar systems have fallen 46 percent in the past year, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Costs vary widely. If you buy a system and go all solar, expect to pay about $35,000 for a single family home. Leasing could cost half that, taking into account panels, the power inverter, the mounting hardware and wiring. Add installation expenses and permit fees. You may be eligible for 30 percent off the cost from the federal government. Some states offer credits, too. That, along with lower bills, means you should recoup your investment in about a decade.
