Attending Shows

A popular show for many serious riders is the 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, located in Palm Beach County, Florida. You can rent a house for $10,000 a month and then head there and back on the weekends. (Bill Gates does this, but he spends much more.) Or you can get airfare plus lodging and housing fees for you and your horse for much less.

$3,600: Weekend flights from New York to Palm Beach for 12 weeks -- JetBlue
$6,000: Weekend lodging in Wellington -- Hampton Inn
$3,000: Meals for 12 weeks (assuming $100 per day)
$3,000: Housing fees for your horse -- Equestrian Sport Productions
$265: Entry fees for shows -- Equestrian Sport Productions
$1056: Administrative fees -- Equestrian Sport Productions
$12,000: Housing for trainer and groom
