  University of Chicago Earns the Top Spot on Bloomberg Businessweek’s Ranking
  of the Best Business Schools

For the first time, Michigan State (No. 20), Minnesota (No. 28), Rice (No.29),
and Texas A&M (No. 30) place in the Top 30 France’s INSEAD takes the No.1 spot
      ahead of Queen’s University in Canada on the international ranking

The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business earned the No.1 spot for
the second time in a row on Bloomberg Businessweek’s 2010 biennial ranking of
“The Best B-Schools.” The best-ranked MBA programs from the previous ranking
in 2008 continue to rule the top of the list, including Harvard Business
School, which maintains the No.2 spot, and The Wharton School of the
University of Pennsylvania, moving up one spot to No.3.

“Bloomberg Businessweek’s rankings help prospective MBA students find programs
that fit their needs,” said Josh Tyrangiel, editor of Bloomberg Businessweek.
“The schools on this list set themselves apart from the competition by
continuing to deliver exceptional academic quality and career development
services to their students and graduates.”

What’s clear from Bloomberg Businessweek’s 2010 ranking of the top full-time
MBA programs is that the job search has grown far more arduous due to the
financial crisis killing or downsizing some of the biggest MBA employers,
including Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers. Three months after graduation in
2007, only 4 percent of grads at the 30 top schools did not have a job offer,
according to Bloomberg Businessweek. That figure has risen to 12 percent, and
at some schools it’s more than double that. To combat this trend, schools are
finding new ways for students to connect with companies that might not recruit
on campus and are teaming up to bring students to the recruiters.

Bloomberg Businessweek’s ranking of full-time MBA programs is based on three
elements: a survey of newly minted MBAs, a poll of corporate recruiters, and
an evaluation of faculty research output. The MBA survey, which measures
satisfaction with all aspects of the b-school experience, is combined with two
previous MBA surveys. The corporate poll, which asks recruiters to identify
the schools that produce the best graduates, is also combined with two
previous recruiter surveys. Finally, Bloomberg Businessweek tallies the number
of articles published by each school's faculty in top 20 journals and reviews
of their books in three national publications. The total for faculty size is
then adjusted and an intellectual-capital rating is assigned for each school.
The MBA surveys and the recruiter polls each contribute 45% to the final
ranking, with the intellectual-capital ranking contributing the final 10%.
