Welcome to our third issue of BLOOMBERG MARKETS devoted entirely to strategies, tips and tools to help you use the Bloomberg Professional service more effectively.

For more than 30 years, Bloomberg has maintained a leadership role as a technology innovator based on a simple motivation: We know that if we aren’t constantly innovating, we’ll be left in the dust.

Today, the volume and complexity of interactions in the financial world has grown, making precision and reliability of communications even more critical to success. It’s one of the reasons we have over 3,000 technologists working at Bloomberg. Their mission is not only to service our more than 315,000 subscribers worldwide but, more important, to work every day to evolve and transform our offerings so we can continue to add value for our customers in today’s challenging times.

Another year has passed since our last edition, and a lot has happened at Bloomberg. We were the first to receive approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to operate a swap execution facility (Bloomberg SEF) that ensures our customers can operate across multiple asset classes more effectively in a post–Dodd-Frank world. We introduced First Word for FX to provide the FX community—operating in a market that averages $5.3 trillion in turnover daily—actionable news, information and insights into the events affecting the global currency markets. And our enterprise solutions offerings continue to serve customers’ growing needs, including Bloomberg Vault (BVAULT), our cloud-based enterprise information management service that’s helping companies improve voice and social-media archiving and address compliance challenges in an increasingly vigorous regulatory environment.

I have said it before in this space, and it bears repeating. We continue to stay focused on one basic question: How can we help clients access our vast resources so that they can achieve the best results in the easiest possible way?

The purpose of the Annual Guide is to help answer that question.
