As the year comes to a close, we’ve selected the strongest photographs – the ones that have enabled us and other news outlets around the world to tell the most important stories of 2013. Our photo collection is above and beyond what business photography is generally equated to like company logos and executive shots.
This is a photo of an employee inspecting the inside of a cooling tower at a geothermal power station in Monterondo Marittimo, Italy, taken on May 29, 2013. The image was used with a story about how clean energy shares outperformed the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index for the first time in six years and shows one of the many workers that are increasingly supporting the clean-tech industry. This aerial photo of a worker walking on the roof of the Maracana Stadium was an aerial shot taken in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on April 24, 2013. This photo supported a story about how Brazil’s biggest construction companies are leading a revival in overseas bond sales in the run-up to the World Cup and Olympic Games. This photo shows just one of those pieces of infrastructure supported by bond sales and the people contributing to it. (Photographer: Dado Galdieri)
As Bloomberg’s photo editor, I challenge my team to “see the business” in every story – and to capture vivid images to bring those stories with the world.
I invite you to take a few moments to look through Bloomberg’s 2013 Best-of-the-Year photo collection, and I hope you enjoy the journey.
