In a research note today, Lazard points out a couple of interesting ecommerce trends to be found in recent comScore data. In dismal times, always worthwhile to point out good news!
1/ comScore estimates that ecommerce spending rose 2% in January which may seem not seem like much to write home about (or write to you about). Still, it looks good compared to the 3% drop over the holidays in ecommerce spending and 6% decline in January of traditional retail sales, based on data from the Department of Commerce.
End result? Ecommerce grabbing marketshare, says Lazard.
2/ Another interesting tidbit is that sales growth in the Books & Magazines category and Sports & Fitness category was up 37% and 42%, which could be due to cocooning.
