Ok, how many people have done this? According to USA Today, nearly 40% of professionals recently surveyed by researcher In-Stat say they’ve bought their own laptop—spending their own money—to be more productive on the road. Often, the report says, cellphone users are picking up their own bills.
I’ll fess up: I bought my own Treo even though it wasn’t going to be reimbursed—my 1.5-hour-a-day commute (each way) demanded it, no matter the cost. If In-Stat’s survey is right, more and more professionals like me are finding that time is a more precious resource than money, with or without the support of their employers. Who else has done the same?
