So the rumors are true! Well, kind of. Wikimedia, the foundation behind Wikipedia, did just get some funding. But it’s the non profit kind.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation just sent out a release saying it was giving Wikimedia $3 million over the next three years to finance employees (up to 15 from 10 on staff), for projects such as service called Flagged Revisions (which Wikipedia is calling the equivalent of nutritional labeling on articles, explaining the quality status), and for future events such as a Wikipedia Academy, to teach folks how to contribute.
