By stripping down the number of factions and eras and putting in a World Domination mode, Empire Earth III simplifies the series and makes it more approachable. However, that doesn't mean it's good. The game borrows a great deal from better games like Rise of Nations and Medieval II: Total War, killing any sense of identity Empire Earth had. To make things worse, units get stuck on the map, breaking armies apart, and unit responses are downright annoying. The trek from the Stone Age to the future is a painful one, and all players can do is wish for it to stop.
