NBA '08 has a lot of momentum heading to the basket but can't complete the shot. The artificial intelligence is a beast, scoring lots of points and reading offensive and defensive plays like a prodigal genius. That's too bad, because other elements of the game work really well. Mini-games are back, including an Arkanoid-type clone and a Whac-a-Mole-like game of reflexes. Other modes, such as Conquest and online, attempt to add depth. In the end, though, these sweet ingredients can't overcome its bitter aftertaste.
