Political and Copyright Bashup Twofer

Heather Green

Professor Justin Hughes at the Cardozo School of Law pointed me to this video mashup on YouTube that he says should be getting the attention in both political and copyright circles.

It lifts video from Apple's 1984 ad and it bashes Hillary Clinton, portraying her as the 1984 dictator. It's a mind bending cross pollination of audiences, though. Wouldn't you expect the folks who advocate mashups (and especially ones featuring Apple) at all costs to tend to vote for the Democratic party? And wouldn't folks who want to demonize Clinton be those who would fight to protect copyright control at all costs? Ahhh, the brave new world.

The producers of this video seem to be Dems: Obama supporters, according to the ending.

Exactly, but that hurts my head too because it seems like a bad idea to do this kind of vicious attack intra party. But I guess Bush did it to McCain in South Carolina in 2000.

the consensus around my office (decidedly a web 1.0, but liberal, office) is that they aren't so sure they liked hillary anyway. and even if they did, why should we care what a bunch of kids put up on youtube? i think they either nailed it, or are a bunch of idiots. we'll find out soon i suppose.

Kids, dems, reps, whoever it was sure pulled off a great viral campaign!
