Tivo + Amazon: Finally!
Just a day after Wal-Mart announced it's doing movie downloads, Amazon.com one-upped the retail giant with a service that has seemed to me a dead-obvious thing to do: It's teaming with Tivo to let people buy or rent videos on Amazon and download them to their Tivos.
The details are still messy--for example, you can't order Amazon videos through Tivo--and for now it's just a test. But the deal still starts to bridge a yawning gap for millions of us who like to watch television not on our personal computers but on our, um, TVs.

My 'puter is my TV. Eventually, electronics makers will combine the two. Right now, I agree -- it is messy to watch content from a PC on a TV if they're not one and the same.

That is great news!
So far the only way I had found to watch PC videos on my TiVo was called TiVoBack and although it works, it is still a manual workaround:

This feels just like a quick play to put themselves into the same breath Microsoft and Apple. Tivo lost a lot of their thunder when they took so long to get an HDTV out there, and most people have Tivo connected by phone still.

Think this could be very powerful. TiVo and Amazon are both best in class, and this plays into their strengths. Amazon especially could be forming a very large play in this space - considered the possibility this morning:

Accenture's Trivergence Blog (accenture.com/trivergenceblog)discusses this deal from the perspective of a more general shift in architectures for networked devices, called Trivergence. Trivergence is what you get when the Device, Data and Controls all reside in different places on the net, but still interoperate.

This service is phenomenal! We registered for it last night, downloaded a movie, got a pizza and relaxed! This is a brilliant move...and so easy!!
