Moving Out of Michigan. Moving into North Carolina.

Peter Coy

Jonathan Miller, the New York City appraiser who blogs at Matrix, has a good take on United Van Lines' annual report on where its moving vans went in 2006.

Here's a link to the van company's report. North Carolina was the top state in terms of the share of trips that were inbound vs. outbound, at 64% inbound. Michigan was at the other extreme, tied with North Dakota at 66% outbound. Keep in mind that this doesn't tell the whole story. States like New York (59.5% outbound) and California (53.9% outbound) get lots of newcomers from other countries who arrive without moving vans.
