LG ties up with PRADA for new phone

Moon Ihlwan

South Korea’s LG Electronics today unveiled a new phone that it developed together with Italian design house PRADA. The ultra-thin KE850, reminiscent of Apple’s iPhone, has wide LCD touch screen without a keypad or navigation key. Called the PRADA phone, its icons on the screen disappear when not in use to reveal a pure black exterior.

LG’s PRADA phone will be marketed in Europe in late February, four months before Apple’s iPhone is due to be introduced in the U.S., at 600 euros in mobile dealerships and selected PRADA stores in Britain, France, Germany and Italy. It will be sold in Asia in March.

Its similarity with the iPhone doesn’t stop in the look and the touch screen. It also plays and downloads music, surf the Internet, delivers voice mail and works as an FM radio and a 2-megapixel camera and video camera. It also allows users to read PDF files as well as Microsoft’s document files, including those in PowerPoint and Excel formats.
