Now Panasonic recalls 6,000 laptops

The scale isn't anywhere near Dell or Apple's recent recalls, but Matsushita announced the recall of 6,000 Panasonic laptops in Japan on Monday. Once again, worries over lithium ion batteries catching fire are the reason. According to Matsushita, problems are possible if the laptop is dropped or a sharp impact damages the battery cover. That can cause internal parts to come into contact with the cell, creating the risk of fire. While the numbers are small, the recall is nevertheless embarrassing for Matsushita. When it unveiled the laptops concerned--the Note CF-W4, launched in May 2005--the company highlighted its sturdy construction.
