Inmates running asylum at Philly blog

Stephen Baker

Will Bunch, a blogger at Philadelphia's Daily News, left for vacation saying he was leaving his blog, Attytude, in the hands of commenters. I clicked to the site, wondering if commenters were guest bloggers. But all Bunch did was invite comments on his last post. I skimmed them and don't recommend it as a reading experience. One nugget, though:

In the 20th century, the well-regulated use of indoor plumbing did more than medicine or any other innovation to reduce infant mortality and expand our life expectancy. So, the group most important to society? Plumbers. Quit bitching about $100/hr. We should obviously be paying them much much more.

Don't get me wrong, I like plumbers. I love them. Faced with a burst pipe my local plumber can take me for all I've got. I might bitch a little, but deep down all that bitching is just an expression of my devotion.

But what are you supposed to do when you go away for a while? I didn't want to turn off the lights so I asked a bunch of other, similar bloggers, to answer a bunch of questions, then set up the blog to pick one set of answers a day until I come back.

It's not immediate. Not ideal. But its informative, lots of it is entertaining and it at least gives the impression that I'm open for business. Plus, it gives other litbloggers somewhere else to sound off.
