With designers keeping the brand's collections up-to-date with the latest trends, Dansko has expanded its product offerings beyond the realm of clogs to include a more attractive selection of sandals and other functional shoes. In the process, they've gained a certain "hipness" factor among urban folk.
According to Dansko.com, the original Dansko clog was created in the late 1980s by a Danish horse-training couple looking for the "the perfect barn shoe." Their unique patented design, according to Dansko's communication materials, was "extraordinarily comfortable, durable, and attractive enough to wear almost anywhere."
The brand officially launched in 1991; today, Dansko footwear is available in retail locations around the world. Perhaps because its main product (the Dansko Professional clog) generates the bulk of its awareness, Dansko has created a brand with an inherent sense of legacy.
