Misleading Paulson Headline of the Week

Michael Mandel

In today's NYT, the headline of the story says "Paulson Comes Full Circle: Bush Picks a Deficit Hawk with White House Experience."

Unfortunately, the article offers no evidence that Paulson is a deficit hawk, besides the blanket statement that "Mr. Paulson has strong views on economic policies that support balanced budgets." Not a single quote, not a single speech. Not even an off-the-record interview with a friend.

It may or may not be true that Paulson is a deficit hawk--I haven't seen any evidence one way or another. However, these sorts of misleading headlines are what help give the media a bad name.

There's no question that Fiscal Stimulus was needed after 9-11. We visited NYC at Mayor Giuliani request in November 2001 for Thanksgiving. I was surprised to see an American city so humbled. We had a wonderful time, and the prices seemed so reasonable.

Today we are back on our feet so we should build new roads and infrastructure, create an environment for new vaccines, and get out of the way.

Technology will continue to power our US Economy.

How ironic, in a good way, to see Iraq a member of NATO in 10 years.

Would you be angry; I wouldn't.
