Inquirer blogs Bonds' at-bats

Stephen Baker

Anyone obsessively keeping up with Barry Bonds' home-run march might want to check out the Philly Inquirer's sports editor blog today. It's snarky but knowledgeable commentary, with good pitch-by-pitch detail every time Bonds picks up the bat or catches the ball. In last night's game, he even got hit by a batted ball.

It's interesting to contrast the sardonic blog with the Inquirer's upbeat coverage by the beat reporter, which has quotes like this following the Phillies' seventh straight win:

"It's playing baseball right," shortstop Jimmy Rollins said. "That's hustling. That's playing cleaner baseball." On the blog, chipper talk like that would be a foreign language.

I'm not a player hater. I just ignore the things that would make me mad, if they are trivial. People vote with their wallets and Bonds gets lots of votes. It doesn't matter in my opinion. It's a busy day and I've got more important things on my mind.
