This is no androgynous droid!
Move over Doutzen Kroes! This droid is bound for stardom. A few days ago, Japanese robot creator Tomotaka Takahashi took the wraps off FT (short for Female Type), his latest addition to a growing robo-family. When the Kyoto University researcher and founder of start-up Robo Garage designed his droid, he had the runway models in mind.
Its back arched and arms splayed, FT stands just over a foot tall and walks with the same bizarre swaying motion that only a supermodel could get away with. The secret to the sashaying lies in FT's gyro sensors and microprocessor, which adjust to keep her upright and balanced.
This lithium-battery powered, carbon fiber and plastic beauty took Takahashi the better part of 13 months to finish. Takahashi hasn't said whether he'll make copies of his bot babe so don't expect this droid to debut in Paris anytime soon. But I wouldn't be surprised if FT eventually attracts stares--and maybe even a little envy--from the best of the fashionistas. (The photo caption reads: The world's most ravishing robot.)
