Young Entrepreneurs of Tech and Question on Newsvine

Heather Green

BWOnline put together an interesting list of top techies under 30. In an overview piece about the list, they write about people power and how that's behind so many of the innovations we're seeing these days. They mention a company I have been following a little bit, Newsvine.

Has anyone else been using Newsvine or reading it? Would love to get insight into how this is working.

As BWOnline writes: " allows users to create their own home pages and columns and comment on every story. Top stories are selected according to user patterns, not by editors. Users even get to keep 90% of the ad revenue that their home pages generate."

I have been using Newsvine from the day it opened to the public. It is a great idea but it does have caveats. Some observations

1. It's a great way to keep in touch with the news, especially due to the wire service

2. The comment sections make for some good reading

3. The quality of writing is hit and miss

4. The number of quality articles is improving as more people start using backpack

5. The one negative with sites like Newsvine and Digg. The more popular articles tend to be those that I am not always interested in

I have contributed to the 'Newsvine' since they were in 'beta'. I have not contributed much original content. I instead use their 'seed the newsvine' function to put a link to most of my posts on my blog 'Serge the Concierge'.

I might write about topics that do not square with my blog content but have not found the time yet.

I like their interface and their tools and template.

All are quite user friendly.

I agree with Deepak regarding the variable quality of the writing.

My column is at

I have been getting some traffic from it.

I also signed up with BlogBurst to syndicate my content. I believe they are launching this week during South by Southwest Interactive. One tool that I like a lot is CoComment

Have a good day
