McDonald's blogs turn public into health inspectors

Stephen Baker

McDonald's is turning into a trailblazer for corporate blogging. Check out this new corporate responsibility blog. (Thanks Alan Nelson) But that's just a piece of a far broader strategy. The company is also distributing blogs to employees, and eventually to customers. The plan: to harvest information from the broad Mickie D's community. This way, they can learn about, say, the most popular sandwiches in Orlando or a dirty bathroom in a Portland franchise. And of course, they can also use the same blogs for targeted marketing.

I learned this from Robin Hopper, ceo of iUpload, the Toronto company that hosts corporate blogs for McDonald's and other companies. He says that McDonald's blog initiative will turn even health inspections into an open-source initiative.
