Apple at $80.86? I Love It
Daniel Terdiman at News.com notices that Apple's stock price today, when it announced its first Intel-based Macs, closed at an interesting price. Can't make this stuff up!
Update: Om Malik adds a bit more to the strange numerology of yesterday. (And thanks, Om, yes I should blog more. Even after a year of blogging, I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I'm in awe of your ability to think quickly enough to write so much, or maybe your ability to get by on much less sleep than I can.)

Well, you could also argue if they had stuck with th e MPC860 that APPLE should close at $860- alas poor MOT-the best damn chip maker for any chips I ever programmed-I MEAN ANYONE that ever had to program assembly language on the abysmal 8086 and then UGG the 80186 knows that the disgusting extended register addressing set showed that INTEL did not care about SW people losing their minds-that is why any SW guy worth his salt in embedded SW always would tell you MOTS were the best hands down- from the 6809 all the way to the 68000, 68030 and MPC860SAR MOT was always a class act...speak of MIPS RISC chips and I also get a chill up my spine thinking of writing asm() directives in C and than reading an analyzer and having to remember that MIPS put in bogus instructions to allow for the look ahead in its odd prefetch cycle- no ever since the 68000 processors have never been beautiful or as simple to program- the 68000 by MOTOROLA is akin the 68 Mustang or the 1971 Chevelle SS-pure beauty and simplicity-nothing fancy just a flat 32 bit addressing scheme, 8 data registers and 8 address registers (yes one was for the stack but whatever) and the exception vectors all at location 0, pure beautiful wonderful simplicity that you could program in C or assembly and predict exactly how the compiler writer would translate the C code into assembler- hell I ever had the op codes memorized but few will appreciate this innate artistic beauty that made me love Motorola for my entire life of programming-things will never be so simple again, pipelines, cacheing, ugly RISC/CISC chips, parallelism, sophisticated processors that give you no visibility into what is going on and are way too complicated to design a true emulator for so we are now stuck with stupid BDM and JTAG style debugger- its just no fun any more boys- ET TU APPLE- than fall MOTOROLA- not-but it is a sad day to see MOT sleeping with the evil empire INTEL-they have always been known to be an unfriendly company to their employees just as MSFT is- both part of the evil WINTEL...will it be that APPLE will become a duopoly with GOOGLE AS APPLOOGLE- I sure hope not-and if they do- tell them to take the telco vendor SONS along with them and embed their class 5 soft switch into the APPLE video phones client computers that GOOGLE will connect to their dark fiber for the multimedia all IP unified net that is going to be INTERNET 2-LOL!!
