Glad I Waited to Buy an Apple Notebook...

Rob Hof

... since Steve Jobs did indeed announce two Intel-based notebooks at Macworld today, along with new iMacs. I'm always leery of buying a machine of any kind in its first months, before it gets bugs worked out, and it sounds like supplies will be tight for awhile. Also, they seem rather expensive--almost $2,000 for the entry-level one? That's almost double what I had hoped to pay for an iBook. But they do seem to have everything I've been looking for, so I'll have to seriously consider taking the chance and ponying up the extra bucks.

AWOL, however, was the rumored Mac mini digital video recorder. Can't have everything, I guess. At least not all at once.

Update: Henry Norr at MacInTouch has one of the best analyses of the new lineup.

DG--thanks, that's an interesting idea. Cheap iBook + relatively cheap new iMac = about the same price as a single new Macbook. And if you sync the two, then you've got a backup.... might try that!
