Mash Up The News
Jeff Jarvis notes a very interesting experiment at the Washington Post: Post Remix. If you've got a little technical flair, you can use the Post's RSS feeds to create new, noncommercial applications that let you remix the news. They're calling it the mashingtonpost.com at the paper. Already, several folks have created Web mash-ups, including NewsCloud, which builds a bloglike tagcloud, or list of keywords weighted by frequency of use. It appears to be a project of Adrian Holovaty, editor of editorial innovations at Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive and the creator of the iconic mash-up Chicagocrime.org. Hard to tell what will come out of Post Remix, but it seems like a smart, bold way for a traditional publication to distribute its creations throughout the Web.

Very cool step. As papers lose relevance the Post keeps attracting new hip people to play with, distribute and build on their news. If you wanted to put yourself at the center of the web revolution this is one smart way to do it. Mash ups are everywhere.
