MARKETSCOPE : The dollar strengthened Monday, as investors continued waiting to see what happens when the Federal Open Market Committee meets on Tuesday.
One dollar bought 116.41 yen, compared to 115.69 yen at the previous close. The euro moved to 1.1989 from 1.2067, while the sterling was 1.7703 from 1.7751.
News hit that the U.S. Chicago Purchasing Managers Index rose to 62.9 in October, well above expectations of a decline to 58.0. Personal Consumption Expenditures rose 0.5% in September, erasing the 0.5% drop in August. August's core personal consumption expenditures index, the Fed's preferred inflation measure, was revised down to 0.1% from 0.2%.
