Online review of Google Blog Search

Stephen Baker

I'll be spending more time than I'd like today writing a review of Google's Blog Search for BW Online. I've read comments about it on this site and elsewhere. But if it has virtues or shortcomings that I should include in the review, please let me know.

Steve, one thing you might want to consider is how incomplete all of these services are. Many of them tout themselves as real-time tools that help marketers and others track important subjects. The truth is, most are really lacking because they don't crawl the full text of a post that is only syndicated as a summary. Your blog is included in that bunch.

I have not yet used Google's blog search extensively, but some questions come to mind. Will Google continue searching blogs alongside other web sites in their main search engine? Will they create a search function which will allow users to eliminate blogs from their search results? If they do this, will blogs be marginalized? Finally, can the blog search engine detect all forms of blogs, e.g. not just blogs using or similar sites, but bespoke blogs created by individuals or corporations?
