Wireless company seizes on Katrina opportunity
SMS.ac, a wireless messaging company, is heading down to the Gulf Coast to recruit as many as 100 software engineers and project managers. The company plans to move them to San Diego.
This reminded me of talks I had with a global software recruiter a decade ago, who said she had luck recruiting in wartorn places like Colombia and Sri Lanka, where people were eager to leave. Trouble was, it contributed to brain drain in those areas.
Is SMS.ac contributing to a brain drain from the bayou? I'm betting that plenty of skilled professionals will be pouring back into the region when the big reconstruction projects start up.
