Comscore blog study puts women in a pen

Stephen Baker

Lots of comments on the new comscore Networks study, which shows that blogs appeal to the young, wealthy, broadband audience advertisers crave. (comments from Jarvis, Denton) But one thing I found jarring. The fourth most visited category, after politics, lifestyle and tech, was "blogs authored by women." As if women didn't blog about politics, lifestyle, tech and everything else?

Yes, of course we do...but I choose to look at the results this way. If we are #4 most popular BECAUSE we are writing with a female voice AND we are also involved in the politics, lifestyle, tech, etc. blogs, we have a pretty strong contingency in the blogosphere, don't we?

The next thing will be men blogging under a female name in hope of getting more traffic to their blog.

I made up a new term. It is cross blogging.

Of course women write about politics and tech and marketing, but they are more likely to write about their personal lives in a way that readers can say, "I'm not the only one."

Whether it's mommy blogging or writing about getting older, you get more intimate glimpses of other lives that brings you a personal connection to shared experience.
