Newsweek rounds up blogs. Should others follow?

Stephen Baker

You can follow the blog responses to Newsweek stories in this new feature, powered by Technorati. Mary Hodder seems to like it. Is this something you'd like to see at other mainstream Web sites, including BusinessWeek Online? Emmanuel Parody (in French) says that this system could eventually displace trackbacks, which are overrun by spammers.

I like it. What's the downside for BW to do this?

Hopefuly Technorati gave me the backlink to your post Stephen :-)

That feature is very impressive. We all know that opening our stories to reader's comments is a difficult decision. Most of french (and european) newspapers sites are very cautious with that kind of innovation. Some allow external comments through forums or apply a strict selection of "authorized" feedback. Trackbacks are still contained to blogosphere (ZDNet France use with poor results, enthousiasm was cut off by spam yes..). Some decided to host blogs for their users, just like a playground for kids..

Your feature is a very smart answer to that issue: how to keep the link with our readers, respect their opinions, integrate it as a real value to our work and, in the same time, keep the integrity of our content. Sounds like respect ...

Salutations from France

Since I write about and quote BW a lot, I say "yes", you should link to blogs that reference your articles! ;-)

Yes, its only courtesty to attribute blog articles. In fact there was a recent survey out of Singapore on these very issues, see me article and quote from the survey.

Really if your now part of the conversation you have to use the techniques your community uses. Why should I link to your articles if you don't link to mine?
