Yahoo races ahead in blogs
Think back to when Microsoft seemed poised to dominate the world. Now look at blogs, and a good case can be made that Yahoo and Google are better positioned. Yesterday, word comes out that Yahoo has picked up blog directory Blo.gs. Microsoft's Robert Scoble predicts that tech companies will eventually offer full suites of blogging technology, from podcasting and v-blogging, as well as "root systems" that connect these services. A half decade ago, an entire industry would be nervously monitoring Microsoft in this space. I don't think folks are nearly as nervous anymore.

And isn't that a wonderful thing! We now have a lot more innovation and maybe these new companies/technologies will actually get funding. Microsoft has become a big, bloated, follower :-)

blo.gs (now Yahoo!) is more than just a "blog directory service." blo.gs is one of the core nodes in the FeedMesh -- a network of otherwise competing blog search and monitoring services that all cooperate in trading information about new blogs and updates to blogs. The FeedMesh allows us to focus on competing through the development of services built on top of our knowledge of blog updates rather than just competing based on the number of blogs or updates that we know about. The result will be, I am sure, a much more rapid pace of innovation in the development of blog search and monitoring tools.
