Comment spam and blacklists
Another morning, another eight trackback spams on party poker to delete, and six more comment spams from pedronetwork. For weeks I have laboriously sent these items to the Movable Type's "de-spam list"--to no apparent effect. The defense has to get a bit serious here, or these spammers will ratchet up their mailings by an order of magnitude and overwhelm us.
While I'm bellyaching... I tried setting up my Verizon phone for moblogging. But I see that all my Internet time on the account will be counted as call minutes. I could run through my monthly allotment just working on this one story. Still, I may have to bite the bullet. The story's due on Thursday.
If I seem irritable... My kid's getting his driver's licence today.

I've been using Expression Engine for over a year without any spam and there seems to be a lot of Moveabletype switchers in the EE forums. You might want to check it out... www.expressionengine.com
What I did to test MoBlogging is to get it all working/tested using my regular mail account and then tried it through Verizon so I didn't eat away all my minutes.
Driving...your life will never be the same and you'll very rarely see the kid anymore...It's the first big step in fleeing the nest :-)

It seems to really be an MT issue (mind you I'm knocking on wood while I type this). I've never had an issue with textpattern, despite some decent traffic.
As an aside, there's been a couple of occasions where I've wanted to get in contact with one of you for a post idea, but you seem impossible to track down! Why no email addresses on the site?

Argh, no email on the site...sore spot. We have to work with our tech and online departments to get design issues addressed. They have been involved in a black hole of a project that is finally and successfully over. So now they can deal with our nitpicks, like a blogroll and putting email on the site.
In the meantime:

If you click on our bylines, it links to an email address. Trouble is, to access that box, we have to quit Outlook and sign in again with a different password. So I don't do it as often as I should. But that reminds me, I'll do it right now...

"... all my Internet time on the account will be counted as call minutes"... See, I knew there had to be a *business* angle for this Mobile Blogging stuff. Unfortunately, it's not in the favor of the user (or whoever pays their bills).
Now if BW can con[vince] all of its readers at the Fortune 1000 companies to get heavily into "moblogging", imagine the windfall profits for the wireless service providers.

Jack, I'll try to walk the narrow line between con(vincing) and con(demning)

Be sure to look at Spamlookup
which plugs cleanly into your existing Movable Type installation and has been very effective for those that are using it.

I just don't get it. Why does a smart company like Biz week use hobby software (mt) when there is free content management systems available that do a much better job?
http://www.opensourcecms.com/ is a list of cms systems that support blogging. Many of them have all of the mt features plus plugins galore.

A "blog" feature that would be nice here is an email notification option so when a comment is made, one is aware of it. There are many posts I'd like to follow but forget later in the day to come back. I've been to a hundred other sites by the time a comment is posted. I think you'd get far better participation if visitors were notified. :-)
