The Community Internship Program inserts UPS managers into low-income communities to make them more understanding as supervisors

UPS founder James Casey started the program in 1968 as a way to expose mostly white managers to poverty and inequality

HOW IT WORKS

Fifty managers a year spend a month living among the poor. They might serve meals to the homeless, counsel recovering drug addicts, or aid migrant farmers

About $10,000 for each participant, $13 million since inception, excluding interns' salaries
