Staples Says Results Are on Track

Agilent Technologies (A) posted a $0.24 Q3 loss per share from operations on a 23% revenue decline. The company said Q3 cancellations were higher than expected. Agilent will cut its workforce by 9%. It sees a $0.50-$0.70 Q4 loss from operations on $1.3B-$1.5B in revenue.

American Eagle Outfitters (AEOS) posted $0.21 vs. $0.04 Q2 EPS on 4.6% higher same-store sales. Management guided August comparable-store sales comparisons to flat to slightly up, and expects 10%-15% Q3 EPS growth, below the Street consensus estimate of 20% growth. Robertson Stephens cut its estimates on American Eagle.

Hain Celestial (HAIN) sees $0.07-$0.12 Q4 EPS as higher market expenditures and increased production costs for its Terra brand offset an expected 13% revenue rise.

Emmis Communications (EMMS) sees $0.45-$0.46 Q2 after-tax cash flow on 4%-6% lower radio net revenue (pro forma). The company cites general softness in the U.S. economy. Emmis said it is actively exploring the taxable spin-off of its Television Division.

Medtronic Inc. (MDT) posted $0.28 vs. $0.24 Q1 EPS from operations on a 14% revenue rise.

Staples Inc. (SPLS) posted $0.09 vs. $0.10 Q2 EPS on flat same-store sales. The company's outlook remains in line with analysts' expectations of $0.65-$0.70 fiscal 2002 EPS.

Key Energy (KEG) posted $0.25 Q4 EPS vs. a $0.01 loss on a 47% revenue rise. The company believes oil and natural gas prices will remain at levels that will provide solid economic returns for producers.

Cuno Inc. (CUNO) posted $0.34 vs. $0.30 Q3 EPS on slightly higher worldwide sales. Cuno expects continued strong performance in Q4.

The FDA approved Mylan Labs' (MYL) Abbreviated New Drug Applications for Oxaprozin tablets.

Medcath Corp. (MDTH) posted 70% higher Q3 EBITDA on a 6.6% revenue rise. The company sees $12.4M Q4 EBITDA on revenue on $86.4M.

Parkway Properties (PKY) sees $4.22-$4.30 2001 funds from operations from continuing operations vs. the Street consensus estimate of $4.36. The company noted timing differences in tenant move-in assumptions, timing of investments, timing of certain expense pass-through items.

Immunex Corp. (IMNX) announced positive preliminary results from its first clinical study of Enbrel in psoriasis.

THQ Inc. (THQI) filed to offer 2.5 million shares.

AAON Inc. (AAON) set a 3-for-2 stock split.

Patterson Dental (PDCO) will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 Index after the close of trading Aug. 22, replacing Minimed Inc., which is being acquired.

Triumph Group (TGI) will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the close of trading Aug. 22, replacing Patterson Dental.
