Tucker Anthony upgraded Toys R Us (TOY) to buy from market perform.
The toy maker posted a $0.15 Q2 loss on slightly higher sales, and analyst Margaret Whitfield says the Q2 loss was in line with consensus. Although flat U.S. comparisons were reported, she says remodels outperformed average ticket/comparisons, which rose 7%. Whitfield says she's comfortable with the $0.09 Q3 loss estimate and the $1.19 fiscal 2002 (Jan.) EPS consensus estimates. She fine tuned her $1.12 fiscal 2002 EPS estimate higher to $1.16.
Whitfield says she upgraded the shares on the belief that recent weakness creates a buying opportunity. She has a $30 target.
